When using Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) to treat patients, many different types of techniques are used. The following is a partial list of treatment techniques more commonly used and what they do.
- Myofascial Release: The IMT model of myofascial release is an indirect technique, that removes strains from fascial and other forms of connective tissue.
- Strain Counterstrain: This is one of the primary techniques used to reduce muscle spasm of voluntary muscle tissue.
- Advanced Strain Counterstrain: Advanced strain counterstrain is used in treating autonomically innervated muscular tissue, including arteries, veins, organs, lymph, and discs.
- Neural Tissue Tension Technique (NTT): NTT is used to reduce scar tissue, and to relieve areas of entrapment surrounding nerves to improve nerve function.
- Muscle Energy Technique: This is the hallmark technique using the bodies voluntary muscle contractions to realign biomechanics of the sacrum, pelvis and spine.
- Visceral Manipulation/Mobilization: By removing strains that are held in visceral tissue we are able to attain deeper and more lasting changes in the body mechanics and function.
- Cranial Therapy: Cranial therapy is an extremely important technique used in healing concussions, traumatic brain injury, whiplash, and other spinal trauma.
